چکیده

purpose: the impact of photo refractive keratectomy compared with using glasses or contact lens on patient’s quality of life (qol) in myopia. method: in this retrospective cohort study, 102 myopic patient who had undergone prk (at least 6 months ago) and 106 myopic patients using glasses or contact lens were included. changes in vision related qol, uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity (ucva, bcva) and refraction were compared between the two groups. qol was assessed using the vfq-25 questionnaire which contains 25 questions in 12 subscales (score: 0-100). result: total qol score in patients using glasses or contact lens, and patients who had undergone prk was 86.1±10.7 and 97±4.4 respectively (p≤0.001). in most subscales including general health, general vision, near activities, distance activities, social function, mental health, role difficulties, dependency, driving and peripheral vision, patients who had undergone prk received higher scores and was in a better condition (p≤0.001). conclusion: visual problems and consequential stresses are significantly decreased in patients who have undergone prk compared with patients who use glasses or contact lens. prk is associated with a significant increase in qol.

Comparative Study of Two Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lenses used as Bandage Contact Lenses after Photorefractive Keratectomy

BACKGROUND Silicon hydrogel bandage contact lenses are used to enhance epithelial healing, control surface-generated pain, and prevent epithelial erosions after refractive surgery. Considering the importance of faster reepithelialization in preventing complications of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and the fact that the features and specifications of these commercially-available lenses are d...

Vision Related Quality of Life in Myopia; Photorefractive Keratectomy versus Nonsurgical Optical Correction

PURPOSE To compare quality of life (QOL) in myopic patients who underwent photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) with that of myopic spectacle or contact lens users. METHODS This observational comparative study was performed on 102 low to moderate myopic patients who had undergone PRK at least 6 months ago and 106 myopic spectacle or contact lens wearers. Vision related QOL and its correlation wit...

Stereoacuity after photorefractive keratectomy in myopia

PURPOSE Stereopsis, as a part of visual function, is the ability of differentiating between the two eyes' views (binocular disparity), due to the eyes' different positions. The aim of this study was to compare stereoscopic vision before and after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in myopia. METHODS In a prospective interventional case series study clinical trial, forty-eight myopic individual...

Transepithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy for Low to Moderate Myopia in Comparison with Conventional Photorefractive Keratectomy

PURPOSE To compare the effectiveness, safety and stability of the results of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (tPRK) with conventional photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for low to moderate myopia. METHODS In this prospective non-randomized case-control study, patients with low to moderate myopia were assigned to the tPRK group (cases) or the PRK group (controls). In the tPRK group,...

Photorefractive keratectomy for myopia and photoastigmatic keratectomy for astigmatism.

BACKGROUND We conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and photoastigmatic refractive keratectomy (PARK) using the Nidek EC-5000 excimer laser. METHODS A total of 67 eyes from 47 patients whose average age was 35 years were enrolled in the study. The mean spherical equivalent of the manifest refraction before surgery was...
